Houston Hair’s reputation as one of the country’s leading hair salons has been confirmed after securing a double finalist placement in HJ’s British Hairdressing Awards 2019, sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional. The Ballymena salon business has already had success in the awards previously with owner and creative director Simon Houston gaining a nomination for Northern Hairdresser of the Year an impressive six times.
Now the successful salon, which has been running since its launch in 2005, hopes to add to this impressive collection. Simon Houston is once again up for Northern Ireland Hairdresser of the Year in 2019 for the seventh time – a recognition that has confirmed him one of the UK’s most outstanding hairdressers. He says: “The calibre of hairdressing recognised in these awards is widely known, and I’m very proud to have done so well. There are many amazing hairdressers in my region and I’m thrilled to be nominated.”
Also up to win in the Oscars of the hair world is Atlanta Surgenor and Kaitlin Bell who have been nominated as a hairdressing duo in the Newcomer of the Year category. This was specifically open to UK based stylists under the age of 27. On their nomination, Atlanta and Kaitlin say: “We’re so grateful to our amazing mentors who have taught us and inspired us to go after constant professional growth. We love the creative aspect to hairdressing and producing beautiful looks and we’re delighted to be recognised and to have got this far in the competition.”
These two titles recognise the phenomenal skill of those at the top of their industry who masterfully combine stunning colour tones and artistic concepts, whilst making hair designs beautifully wearable at the same time. These dynamic hair experts make up just six other hairdressers in each category making the prestigious finals. Simon, Atlanta and Kaitlin’s creative hairstyling and exceptional skill in cutting and colouring ensured that their photographic work stood out from the rest. Now, they will submit another four images of their work in the hope of catching the judges’ imagination and hearts further with expanded trend-led collections. This artistic hairdressing will put them in the running to secure the titles at the awards ceremony in November.
Commenting on the announcement, Jayne Lewis-Orr, executive director of HJ’s British Hairdressing Awards said; “To be named as a finalists highlights just how exceptional Simon, Atlanta and Kaitlin are.
